Inner Beauty
"I'm off to
beautify the world one person at a time," I would jokingly say when
I started cutting hair again. Well, you might find it odd that
someone who has been working in the rather superficial beauty
industry for over twenty five years would talk about inner beauty,
but I understand that my job is to make women feel
beautiful, and as everyone ought to know, that kind of feeling
only comes from within.
Customers often come in and talk about wanting a
hairstyle that will hide this feature or accentuate that one, as if
my scissors were a magic wand that could make noses smaller, or
cheekbones higher, or erase wrinkles. True, a good hair stylist
will adapt your preferences into a cut, color and style that will
be the most flattering to your hair type, face shape, and skin
tone, but a great hair stylist will also adapt it to your
personality and way of life, which is where inner beauty and
outer beauty intersect.
Hair should be an expression of personal style and
should be able to change as your needs change. Although my scissors
are not a magic wand, I know that a functional style can let you
sleep a little longer in the morning, a new color can add a spring
to your step, some artfully placed highlights can make you feel
younger, and the right amount of curl might even bring out your
femininity. Hair should make you feel great instead of just good
and should make your life easier rather than more complicated; hair
should be an expression of who you are and who you want to be.
Every woman possesses beauty, but for the world to see it, you need
to let it shine through... why not make that statement with your
hair?
